Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports on the fishing around Donegal Bay…
24 February: A stiff easterly blew across the beach at last night’s league outing but the well wrapped up anglers enjoyed the starry moonlit night reeling in fish from the surf.
A few trout early on quickly put into the buckets of seawater for release attacked the lugworm baits and lots of small whiting and flounders mostly early 20cm size.
Another very close finish with just 5cm points separating 1st and 2nd place with most points cash prize going to Michael McGettigan and 2nd place money going to Frank Kane.
Longest fish was a 27cm flounder (trout don’t count) for Michael McGettigan.
An enjoyable night on the beach at a difficult time of year great to get out well done to all.
Blowing an easterly gale and the lively trout leaps out of the release bucket at the comp. Always good to see them swim off back under the floating suds of the surf
