Angling on Corrib has shown an improvement this week, with better sedge hatches and fresher conditions helping matters no end.
In the Oughterard area Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge (091-552550) reports of friends Larry Kelly, Dublin and John Jacks, Scotland fishing for 6 days landing 15 fish with the best fish being 2.75lbs. On Wednesday last Benny Stewart had 3 trout on daphnia with the best being 1.75lbs, and on Sunday Loughrea angler Malcolm Naughton had 1 fish for his day out. Staying in the area Kevin Molloy of Baurisheen Bay Boat Hire, Guiding & Self Catering (tel. 087-9604170) reports an improvement in fishing in the area; on Monday last friends Gene Haran and Neil Gelston had 7 trout on wet fly in the area and on Tuesday last Kevin guided visiting French anglers and landed 3 trout trolling.
Tom Doc Sullivan http://www.tomdoc.com in the Cornamona area reports on some decent fishing in the area on sedges and mayflies, with honeymooners from the USA Eric and Lyle Klingmann who had a great day on dries, both mayfly and sedges. Best fish on the day was Eric’s 3lbs fish caught on a dry Walkers sedge, size 12.
Phillip Comber of Rabbit Island Lodge http://www.connemaragetaways.com reports that 8 year old Clemence Benevise staying on Rabbit Island set the bar high for herself with her first ever fish – a cracking trout of 64cms! Paul Kelly had a nice fish on a wet fly over 3lbs on Friday fishing with Phillip.
Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge http://www.corribangling.com reports a quieter week at the lodge, being on the water three days with visiting UK angler David Kidd who had 8 trout for his three days on sedges and the best fish being 2.5lbs.
