Ronan Cusack reports that recent reports from Mask have been poor, possibly due to the sudden increase in water levels. Torrential rain over the past few weeks have raised the level of the lake dramatically and fish have been difficult to locate. Many anglers who qualified for the final in this year’s world cup “which was postponed due to adverse weather conditions” have been out practicing for the big day on September 1st ,but reports have been mixed.
Partry angling club held there annual development competition on Sunday last which was supported by 102 anglers. This event could be either fished on Lough Mask or Carra. For the first time in a good number of years the top 4 positions came from Lough Carra. In first place were well known Partry brothers Pat and Martin Feerick with 5 fish weighing 10.240lbs. In second position was Seamus O’Loughlin and Brian McInerney with 4 fish for 8.810lbs. Third place went to Mark Regan and Eamon Keaney with 4 fish for 4.820lbs.
Anglers who have not seen their boats recently would be advised to do so, as lake levels have risen sharply and boats may need to be moved further up the shore.
