Declan Gibbons brings us this week’s round up from Corrib, where angling was for the most part difficult with little or no consistency in hatches or suitable conditions.
Cornamona
Starting off in the Cornamona area Tom Doc Sullivan http://www.tomdoc.com reports of a quiet week with anglers earning their respective catches. Tom guided Trim anglers Dermot Leonard and Tommy Keoghan for two days landing 5 fish with the best 1.75lbs.
Chris Oliver from Navan landed a fish of a pound and a half on his first time to try out dapping on a cricket. Brandon Hamber was rewarded with a fish of 1.75lbs on a dry daddy.
Tom & John Somerville Jnr guided 4 Moycullen Ladies for a half day with one of the group rewarded with a fish of 3lbs dapping a cricket.
Annaghkeen
In the Annaghkeen area Castlebar angler Peter Grey on Saturday had 3 trout on wets ranging in size from 1.5-4lbs, all sportingly released.
Oughterard
in the Oughterard area The Oughterard Anglers Association on Saturday last hosted he John Gill Cup. Winner on the day was John Deacy with 2 fish. Second place went to Aidan Kelly with 2 fish, and in third place was Mike Faherty with 2 fish.
In the Glann area Liam Jordan had 2 fish dapping for his outing. Kevin Molloy Boat Hire & Guiding (087-9604170) reports of three Cork anglers Pierce Murphy, and Mark & Emmet Couch landing 14 fish for 3 days with a 2.5lbs average and best fish was 4lbs. Eugene Duffy and Friend had 2 trout for their day – best fish 2.25lbs on Friday last. Kevin himself on Thursday last had one trout of 3lbs.
Staying in the Oughterard area Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge reports of a very tough weeks angling gone by. Guests at the lodge who had action included Barry Collins who landed 2 fish on wets – best fish 1.25lbs. Michael Mulligan had 3 fish to 1.75lbs. On Saturday last Conor O’Mahony had a nice fish of 2lbs and friend Mick Byrne also had a fish of 2.5lbs whilst fishing with friend John Murphy, 85 years young enjoying a day on Corrib.
