Angling guide Tomi Kurman is no stranger to specimen trout, with many trout of specimen size (and well above) boated by himself and clients on Lough Corrib over many years. Well he proved that he can turn his hand to specimen wrasse fishing too. On a recent day away from the lake, Tomi and a friend landed a LOT of beautiful wrasse.

As Tomi says “they will never stop amaze me how beautiful they are” We fully agree!

Beautiful colours on this fish

For their day, they landed 1 tub gurnard, 1 coalfish, 3 mackerel, around 25 wrasse – 3 biggest were 57cm, 58cm and 60cm! More than half of total numbers were over 45cm

A chunky ballan
And 80-90 pollock- mostly small ones but 4 were just over 70cm and around 10 over 60cm….
Very different, but just as spectacular colours on this wrasse
Now that’s what we call a good day on the water. And Tomi reckoned he could still feel the ache in his arms that night!
Beautifuil! Not you Tomi, the fish!
