River Moy Angling Report week ending 02-06-2024
Water levels at Ballylahan continued to fluctuate reaching a high of 1.65m on Monday dropping to 0.82m on Thursday and dropping further to 0.52m by Sunday at noon. Weather was also unpredictable with temperatures ranging from 12 ̊Celsius to 19 Celsius with above average rainfall and light to moderate west to northwest winds. Recorded rainfall amounts were mixed due to localised heavy showers and thunderstorms. Some areas fared much drier than average with just 10mm recorded in Malin Head, and up to 60mm recorded in Ireland West Airport.
A total catch of one hundred and twenty-six salmon were reported caught this week in the catchment with one hundred and fourteen being kept and twelve being released back to the water.
Ballina Salmon Anglers
An improvement in numbers this week with a grilse run evident mid-week. Thirty-nine salmon were caught and taken varying in weight from 2 lbs up to 13 lbs. Thirty-two of them caught on the worm and the remaining seven on the spinner.

Knockmore Salmon Anglers
Kenneth reported six salmon caught and taken on the worm this week weighing from 7 lbs up to 11 lbs.
Byrnes Fishery
Roy reported of two salmon caught and taken on the worm this week weighing 6 lbs and 12 lbs respectively.
Gannon’s Fishery
Pat reported six salmon caught and taken with weights ranging from 6 lbs to 12.5 lbs. All salmon were caught using shrimp and prawn.
The Foxford Fishery
Granville reported of five salmon being caught using the prawn and spinning, four taken and one released with the best weighing 11 lbs.
A report was received of four salmon caught and taken this week in the Foxford town area using the worm and spinning with the best weighing in at 8 lbs.
Foxford Salmon Anglers
Twenty-nine salmon were reported caught and taken this week. All were caught using a mixture of spinning, worm and prawn. The best weighing in at 18 lbs and at least ten of the remainder in excess of 12 lbs.

Cloongee Fishery
A total of three salmon were reported caught this week with weights ranging from 5 lbs to 10 lbs caught on the fly and spinning. Two of the fish were released back safely to the water and the remaining one taken with the best weighing 10 lbs.
East Mayo Anglers Association
Kathleen reported of an improved week with a total catch return of thirty-two salmon caught using fly, spinning and worm with a wide variety of weights from 4.5 lbs to 13 lbs with twenty-three taken and nine released.
