Dublin’s River Dodder played host to 13 competitors in the Irish Trout Fly Fishing Association’s Leinster River Qualifiers last weekend. The event was sponsored by well-known Dublin tackle shop Rory’s Fishing Tackle, and it was great to see an urban river holding an event like this. The fishing on the Dodder did not disappoint, as some prolific hatches of fly, including various olives and iron blue duns in particular, saw a total of 166 trout over 18cm caught in this catch-and-release event.
It just goes to show what a gem of a river this is, and it is no wonder it attracts anglers from all around the capital and further afield. At the measure up, it was David May from the North Kildare Anglers who finished top of the rankings, just ahead of a couple of Dodder Anglers members, Glen McCrave and Stephen Potts.
The top five were as follows:
1st David May, North Kildare Anglers
2nd Glen McCrave, Dodder Anglers
3rd Stephen Potts, Dodder Anglers
4th Brian Larkin, Dundalk Anglers
5th Joe Winders, North Kildare Anglers
Best of luck to the Leinster team who will take part in the 2025 National competition.
