The final of the VDE Irish Canal Masters was fished over the weekend in the Daingean area. It was a wet and windy day, making the going tough for the competitors. The majority of the fish were small roach with the odd very small tench and a skimmer or two also showing. The biggest fish of the day was a bream of 1lb 14oz caught by Stefan Dorneanu.
But, at lines in, there was one clear winner, as Edenderry club member Alan Larkin had a bag of 11lb 5oz, which was double the score of the next best bag, to seal the win and take the trophy along with a nice cheque for €2000. Runner up was Pat Bartley with 5lb 2oz, with Alan Dywer in third with 4lb 2oz.
