Young angler Cormac Dunne landed a super canal perch this week while fishing on the Royal Canal near to Clonard in County Meath. Cormac measured the fish at 37cm – so not too far off what would have been a specimen (greater than 40cm to the fork of the tail). It is a great size perch for the canal, but there are definitely bigger ones in there and we hope that Cormac keeps at it and sends us a photo of a bigger one the next time!
Perch love to stay close to structures, so bridges, locks and harbour walls can be great places to search in a canal for big stripey predators like the one Cormac caught.

Well done to him!
