Abbeyfeale Anglers' Association cancell Balsam Bash due to weather – My Local News

The Balsam Bash announced for tomorrow, Saturday 9th June, is being cancelled due to the heavy floods. A date will be announced shortly for the next attempt as the plant will shortly be at the flowering stage and it needs to be eradicated before that happens. Hopefully the flood will bring some salmon and trout to the upper reaches of the river and make for good fishing for the next week or so.

Pike angling is slow enough on the lake this week.  However, four tourist angling boats reported to have caught 166 Pike with one Pike measuring 1.30 m and another weighing 11 kg.  One Pike angler caught a 9 lb Salmon while trolling down from Killaloe.  The Salmon was caught, photographed and returned safely to the lake afterwards.

Generally the lakes are quiet at the moment with few anglers utilising the resource.  Lough Graney was reported to have fished well last weekend for trout – although they were smallish.  Next Sunday (10th June) the Paddy Kelly Memorial Cup will take place on Lough Graney – hopefully there will be the same catches as the previous weekend.

River Feale report

River Feale by Paddy Halpin

High water on R Feale at Listowel Bridge

Water levels on the River Feale continued low for much of last week and salmon angling wasn’t worthwhile.  Over the last weekend there was almost continuous rain and the river has become very discoloured with high water.  Things should be good next week when water levels settle a bit.
