There is a fair run of fish with a very good grilse run dependent on water. Permits can be purchased on site from Dan O’Riordan, ESB Inniscarra; 087-9983879.
Fiachra McCloskey was on to say he has just had one of the best weeks of fishing he has ever enjoyed…
Just back from an amazing week of fishing in Cavan. I broke my personal best pike at 9.8kg on Friday evening. I had been feeder fishing for big roach and kept getting hit on the way in so I set up a deadbait and got run after run until I caught this beast at about 10.30. That big fish was followed by as well as getting 4 other smaller pike up to 4.5kg.
The new and current PB – 11kg
I went out again on Monday night. Once again there was lots of activity. I quickly got 5 smaller jacks and a the same time and almost the same spot as Friday got an even bigger pike at 11 kg.
It looks like roach like this had attracted the pike into the swim…
I also had some nice roach to .770kg. All in all the best fishing week in many years!
Stefan Martin from Killybegs Mariners SAC reports on the fishing around Donegal Bay…
23 June: As always the west Donegal beaches facing west into the setting evening sun always provide the tropical settings for the high summer outings. Fishing was quiet mostly small under our 23cm size limit but a nice 32cm flounder for Dessie O Keeney won him longest fish prize and Dessie also won the most points cash prize on the night. 2nd place prize was won by Michael McGettigan. Great angling well done to all who took part.
26 June: Heading out targeting Bull Huss in the barbecue weather. Great fishing and Huss to 8lbs taken from the kelp giving a great scrap to get them landed and released from the shore. Large baits attracted the big fish along with a few thornback rays also. A nice species to add to the species hunt for the year and a few sea angler mission accomplished badges on the way. A great day out, happy men.

Huge, monster of a skate – 219lb. This super fish wins Loch an Iasc Catch of the Week
23 June: More skate today including a lovely fish of 179 for Nick Ward.
The Loch an Iasc is a fast worker 36 built in Valentia and refurbished in 2005 under department of marine supervision specifically for angling charters and whale watching. She is licenced and insured for 12 passengers and carries a P5 licence which allows her to operate within 30 miles of designated ports. For customer comfort there is inside seating for 12 passengers and it has a toilet as well. The Loch an Iasc is powered by two Caterpillar 3126 engines giving a total of 700 horsepower which means that our customers can get to fishing grounds faster or when the whales and dolphins are offshore you will get more time with them. In 2014 Tom Collins invested in new electronics and fitted new led lighting for night shark fishing trips. Tom has found in the past that lots of light at night attracts baitfish which in turn brings in the big predators. The recent, and continuing fine weather has been a bonus, with perfect conditions for boat fishing and water temperatures increasing all the time. John has had a Dutch crew fishing with him during the last week, and as well as tope they had some great ground fishing on the reefs, with fine pollack and some decent cod and ling landed, mostly on lures.

Evan McGovern was back to us this week with a report from his trip out with Kit Dunne of Wicklow Boat Charters…
Craig Murphy had 2 specimens of 10lbsJeff Nolan with his 15.75lbs smoothhound
We headed out with Kit Dunne on Sunday in search of smoothhounds. We had a few small hounds and a thornback ray to start the day off and then most of us decided to fish big baits for the chance of a big hound. Craig Murphy had two specimen fish in around 10lb, Jeff Nolan had one of 15.75lbs and I finished the day with a late specimen of 18.3 lbs.
Evan saved the best for last – a smoothie of 18.3lb

Blackwater Salmon Fishery
Blackwater Salmon Fishery has 3 beats downstream of the weir and 2 upstream of the weir. Blackwater Salmon Fishery offers fishing on approximately 5 miles of the river Blackwater. The fishing is spread throughout the middle section of the river to offer good sport throughout the fishing season. Due to the location of the beats, fishing can still usually be offered in low or high water. Contact Glenda Powell: Lismore, Co Waterford, Email:[email protected] Mobile: +353 (0) 872351260 Telephone: +353 (0) 5853929 Web: www.blackwatersalmonfishery.com
Ballyduff Bridge Salmon Fishery
Ballyduff Bridge fisheries control a number of beats of the Munster Blackwater. The Ballyduff Bridge beat is almost a mile long offering a huge variety of water and is particularly suited to fly fishing. Upstream near the village of Ballyhooley (a few miles outside the town of Fermoy, Cork) we have two beats. The Ballincurrig Beat is one of the most beautiful locations along the river and has an excellent piece of fly water flowing into a deep pool. Just downstream on the opposite bank we have a short but productive beat, called Magners. This beat fishes also well in high water.
Fortwilliam Fishery offers two miles of double bank salmon and trout fishing over five beats on the river Blackwater.
Our salmon include – Springers, May Salmon, Grilse, Back End Salmon, and in Summer sea trout.
Our beats provide a wide variety of water, suitable for both beginners and the more experienced fishermen.

Greg Reidy was in touch to report on recent fishing at Ballynahinch Castle Fishery.
Conditions for salmon fishing had been difficult prior to the 5th of June, with salmon lying in the deep pools and never showing interest in any fly put over them. Thankfully the weather broke and within 24 hours of rain falling a 5lbs grilse was landed by Kevin Keaney, and 4 more fish landed in the following two days between Seamus O’Neill and Stephen Cullinane.
Kevin Keaney with a fine grilse off Beat 4
On Monday the 18th of June a fabulous 12lbs salmon was landed by Brian Davy. Anglers saw plenty of salmon rising to the surface but no fish took a fly until Saturday the 23rd when a 6lbs and a 7lbs salmon were taken from Beat 1.

Anglers have had plenty of sport with sea trout as two anglers in particular had well in to the double figures each in one evening fishing sea trout. Grilse and sea trout are coming in to the system in steady numbers on every tide which bodes well for the season ahead once we get some more rainfall.

Osgur Grieve reports on fishing from the Erriff Fishery:
The following is the angling report for the Erriff from 20th – 26th June. On Wednesday 20th we had a good flood showing 1.86m on the gauge by morning. Regular visitor Kevin Clayton landed 2 ranched grilse of 3.5lbs from the Lower and Middle Garden Pools on a Park Shrimp and hooked and lost 6 more! That same day Niall Berwick fished beat 5 in the morning and released a 2lbs grilse in Broken Bridge Pool and lost another better fish, that afternoon he also lost another good fish in the Coronation Pool on Beat 8. That evening regular visitor Donal Chambers hooked and lost 7 salmon in the Falls Pool, proving it doesn’t matter what you do if the fish aren’t taking right.
On Thursday 21st Donal Chambers and Albert Caffrey had a ranched grilse each of 5.75lbs and 4.25lbs on a Stoat’s Tail green butt tube and a Willie Gunn, these grilse came from the Falls and Middle Garden Pool. With the water dropping to 0.84m by Saturday 23rd Mr. Howley fished a microtube in the Falls and had a 5.5lbs ranched grilse before lunchtime. Kevin Clayton also released a wild grilse of 3lbs on a lightly dressed Cascade that morning. By the 24th the current heatwave was really starting to slow the fishing down but Benny Weltz did manage a wild grilse of 3.25lbs from the Falls which he released.
At the time of writing the gauge is reading 0.6m and the sun is blisteringly hot, this is more like beach weather than fishing weather, but when the weather does break I would expect the fishing to really pick up.
