Jack Tisdall e-mail: [email protected] reports on the Waterways Junior Classic which took place on the River Erne last weekend.
The first match in the Waterway’s Ireland Junior Classic took place on the River Erne at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.
Despite cold and windy weather conditions all but two of the 25 Junior anglers caught fish in the opening event.
Individual winner was Billy Williams (Enniskillen) 2.530 Kgs, Billy caught small Roach and Perch at 4m on the pole in the Back Channel section.
Runner up was Aaron Hutchman (Belfast) 1.650 Kgs on the Broadmeadow section, with Paul Burke (Monea) 1.250 Kgs third, winning the Derrychara section.
All three of the top anglers were in the upper age group and all scored 1 point.
In the Junior age group Anna Theedom (Ballycassidy) and Matthew Wilson (Newry) were equal first on 2 points with James Howell (Kilskeery)
third on three points.
In the team event, the team from South West College won the day on 5 points just ahead of the team from the Erne Anglers on 6 points.
The final two matches will take place over the next two Saturdays, with best two results to count.
The Ulster Junior team (8 men) will also be selected from the anglers taking part, for this years Inter Provincial on the 30 June/ 01 July in Co Cork.
