Mark Carolan of the Drogheda Coarse Angling Club reports that on Sunday the 27th January five brave angling soldiers, Antony Barrette, Shane O’Reilly, Paul Murray, Jamie Murray, and Martin Murphy represented the Drogheda Coarse Angling Club in a four hour open match on Namachree Lough, Carrickmacross, hosted by Carrickmacross Coarse Anglers.

The weather conditions were rough to say the least with a gale force north westerly blowing rain, sleet, and snow right into the face of each angler. The lough itself was up about three feet and very choppy, all of which made the fishing very difficult.

The feeder was the best and only method used today and with groundbait, maggots and hemp in the feeder and double red on the hook it seamed to do the trick with Roach & Perch coming to the net at a thirty five yard chuck into sixteen feet of water.

In total twenty three anglers braved the elements and challenging conditions and in the prize money was first Kevin Maguire, second Seamus Keegan and in third was Rocky Farrell.

Well done to all our members who took part in the event and we are all looking forward already to our next outing.

Drogheda Coarse Angling Club are currently recruiting new members and would be delighted to hear from anyone seeking to join a club or anyone wishing to take up coarse angling as a hobby.
