Eire Bass guide Richie Ryan continues to have success with pollack fishing on the fly. Young Darragh Mc Carthy had a session on Cork’s Harbour Rock with Richie and hooked his first first fish on a fly rod . He got a present of the rod for Christmas. The pollack was hooked in deep water on the mark. The guide was very impressed by the young anglers casting ability. Darragh learned how to double haul, a method of casting a fly, from YouTube !

In addition Richie’s son Cian, a novice fly rodder, joined his father on a 30 mile round trip in search of pollack on the fly.

Cian did well, his best fish on the day was a fine 7 lb pollack from a deep water mark.  Richie also had plenty of hook ups, but on this occasion the pupil outshone the tutor.
