Larry McCarthy of Corrib View Lodge http://www.corribangling.com reported of a good improvement in fishing over the last week. Malcolm Patrick and Ian McKenzie fished with Larry over 5 days and caught 22 trout between 1.5lbs. and 3.5lbs. all on dry may fly in the areas of Malachy’s Island and Inchagoill.

Other guests at the lodge reported similar returns with most rods averaging 2 to3 trout. The second hatch of mayfly should intensify over the next week or two with the added option of some good sedge fishing to be had.

In the Cornamona area, visiting UK angler Bob Forshaw had 4 fish over three pounds two of which were 4lbs 6oz and 5lbs 2oz all released. On Sunday, the Oughterard Anglers & Boatmans’ Association hosted The Kevin McQuinn Memorial Cup (Youths Competition & Mixed Grill ). On the day, twenty-one youths participated in the event which Amy Molloy was 1st with 2 fish (5lbs.), 2nd place went to Grainne Molloy with 3 fish (4.60lbs.) and 3rd was Mark Molloy. A good day was had by all and the day was finished with the presentation of prizes and a BBQ at Baurisheen.

Basil Shields of Ardnasillagh Lodge (+353 (0)91 552550) reported from the Oughterard area with good fishing had by visitors to the Lodge. Saules Thierry from France had one fish (4lbs 8oz) on a dry mayfly for his day on Corrib and Pat Mullane had a fish for 2lbs 8oz on mayfly. Mark Dermott, NI, had two fish on wets with the best fish being 5lbs 10oz and Mark Robinson, NI, caught one at 2lbs 8oz. On Sunday, Julie McKeever had two fish for her day with the best being 40cms both sportingly released. Almha McDonnell also had 2 fish on Sunday with the best being 48cms, while Kevin Gerry and Friend had three trout for their day on Corrib.
