Monday 19th  to Sunday 25th August 2019

Melvin was quiet again for salmon this week with no one out fishing for the same. The trout fishing however, was fairly good at times.

The Garrison & Lough Melvin Anglers Association held their 40th Lough Melvin Open Competition. This is a pair’s competition and is run over 4 days from Thursday to Sunday with the first 3 days being qualifiers and the final fished on Sunday. The fishing was tough at times but also some competitors fared very well. Looking at the results, there were few blanks. The overall winners on the final day were Stevie Ellis and Chris Callaghan with 5 trout for a weight of 2.645. They each win a Foley Melvin Angling Boat. In 2nd place were Woodrow Acheson & Mark Duncan with 7 fish for a weight of 2.22. In 3rd place were Pat Carson & Neil Lutton with 4 fish for a weight of 1.66.
