Michael Murphy reports from Lough Conn…
The Mike Tiernan Memorial Cup, a collaborative effort between Foxford Angling Club and the renowned Tiernan Brothers angling shop, was held on Lough Conn on 24th August. This competition was a powerful statement of intent for conservation and sustainable angling. The competition’s most novel and progressive feature was its core principle: catch and release. This approach, increasingly seen as essential for protecting precious wild brown trout stocks, ensures the sport can be enjoyed by generations to come. The event demonstrated that competitive spirit and environmental stewardship can go hand-in-hand.
The winner was Michael Lynn with 3 trout, measuring 13.25 inches, 13.5 inches and 14.5 inches. Anglers reported good sport for the day with a lot of boats reporting fish caught.

Elsewhere, Padraig Traynor and visiting angler Simon McHale from Australia had good fishing in the Brackwansha area of Lough Conn on Tuesday 2nd September landing three trout over 13 inches and two further trout just under 13 inches.
