Four fish were reported from Lough Beltra over the week; Martin McCoy had one of 9lbs to a Green Peter on Wednesday, followed by a second on Friday of 12lbs, taken on a Claret Bumble. On Saturday past Mel Parrott boated one of 7lbs at the Quarry while on Sunday Dave Malpas took one of 9lbs from the Dock area.
Two good salmon have been reported from the Bonet in recent days, both in the Dromahair area. James Conlon fishing the worm landed an 11lbs fresh run springer, while Conn Kelly also had success, with a fish of 9lbs (also taken on worm).
Recent reports from the loughs suggest there is as yet no sign of any mayfly hatch, although good hatches of Duckfly, and increasingly Olives have been observed. Anglers fishing have reported reasonable catches, with some boats landing five fish for a day.
Fishing out of the Pontoon Bridge Hotel, Gerard Bell, N.Ireland, had two trout totaling 3lbs on Dabbler’s, near Glass Island, while Vinny O’Boyle, Knockfree, had one of 1.5lbs on a Bibio. John Lacken, Co. Galway, had two for 2lbs on the Connemara Black, with Hugh and Peter Burke, Co. Dublin, boating five for their trip, averaging 1lbs all taken on Dabbler’s.
Fishing from Brackwansha, Michael Brennan, Charlestown, had three small trout on Bumble’s at Castlehill, with Padraic Traynor capturing three averaging 1.25lbs at the Abbey Point. At Cloghans Bay Stephen Gillan, Ballina, reported five trout over two days and Peter Roach had three totaling 3lbs.
The SW we were waiting for hit the copper coast today, as the wind was in the north for a couple of days beforehand the water clarity was spot on and coincided nicely with a rising tide for us this afternoon.
Fishing is tough at the moment but the bass are slowly starting to make there way back to the usual marks. For the next couple of weeks the water temperature will begin to rise quickly and the fish will follow.
Cian had this nice bass today on a weedless soft plastic fished slowly through some shallow boulder ground.
Absolute fishing man Cian with a nice Bass
Nice to see some silver turning up on the coastline again, lets hope its a sign of good things to come…
Kevin Lyons reports on a party who fished on waters near Melview Lodge in Longford:
Mark Whiteside and friend Kerry were down from Northern Ireland for a few days Pike fishing staying once again with Kevin and Jane at Melview Lodge in Longford, they braved the high winds and used every method available to them. Mark had some smaller male Pike but it was friend Kerry that came out on top this time using the fly. Kerry had some nice Pike on his light fly tackle but he had a nice surprise waiting for him when he decided to switch to Roach dead bait, trotting a float fished dead roach just off the bottom he hooked into what he thought to be a good Pike but it turned out to be a cracking Trout of 6lb.

Next week we see how father and son Belgium Pike anglers have managed to get on during their stay at Melview Lodge.
30/04/2013: In my last update on Sunday, I said that Urs needed 19 to make 400. Shortly after the update it decreased to 18 and counting. He won’t get many marks for this one as a Springer, as it was estimated at just over 5lbs and was taken from the Meadow pool on an Improved Helmore’s Hackles. Not one of your better Springers Urs!!
On Monday Geoff Lucas landed his first of the week from the Waterfall on a Delphi Collie. Again I’m afraid this was no monster coming in even smaller at just under 5lbs.
On Saturday Fredo Dietrich (who hasn’t been here for 13 years) had the first, a fish of 7lbs1oz off Finlough on a Silver Ally shrimp
Gladly Fredo brought proceedings back to some form of normality when his wife Christine netted his second fish of the week, a sea liced fish of 8lbs8.5ozs from the Whin pool. The fish took a Collie Dog. It was Christine’s first time to net a salmon, so well done to her for doing so, successfully!
Water levels are still holding nicely at 30, so hopefully we will see some more fish in the next couple of days.
