Ballycullinan Lake, Atedaun Lake, Dromore Lake, Rinroe Lake

Good general coarse fishing with some specimen fish particularly tench and bream in Ballycullinan and nearby lakes on the River Fergus system. Fishing on many of the lakes is from boat or boat stands in beautiful surroundings. All fishing methods combined with a wide range of baits work here. Cullaun Lakes, Doon Lake, Bridget’s Lake, Kilgory Lake

Very good general coarse fishing with some specimen fish particularly tench and bream. Excellent network of small to medium sized lakes providing a huge variety of fishing which is mainly from good banks and stands using all methods and baits. River Shannon, Paddy McNamara’s Lake

Portumna

River Shannon, Upper Lough Derg

Very good general coarse fishing and fine competition stretches with several successful festivals held annually. Anglers using boats on the upper half of the lake and who have put in a bit of reconnaissance and prebaiting can locate large shoals of bream in sheltered bays. Very good general coarse fishing withs some excellent from the numerous backwaters near the town. Popular coarse fish festival held here annually. Shannonbridge

River Shannon, River Suck, Grand Canal, Boora Lakes

Fishing is free on the River Shannon but a permit is required for the River Suck. This can be bought online. The hot water section below the town produces some wonderful big tench along with good catches of bream. Good general coarse fishing. Permit required for the river. Fine bream and tench fishing around Correen ford. The marina in the town produces good catches of roach and is particularly productive during the winter months. A permit is required for the River Suck. This can be bought online. Good general coarse fishing with catches of bream now at Ballyforan, Ballygar and at Athleague. Excellent developed angling stretch at Donamon for disabled anglers. There is tench and hybrid fishing on Hollygrove lake from the stand and from the island. Good car parking and huge network of walk way and stands including disabled angling positions at Stoneham’s Lake, at Donamon and Lough Loung near Glinsk. Permit required , can be bought online. Good general coarse fishing in the famous “Meadows” stretch of the river. Advice should be sought from B & B or tackle shops for best locations on Lough Ree. Mullingar

River Inny, Lough Derravaragh, Lough Kinale, Ballinafid Lake, Gaulmoylestown Lake, Royal Canal

Good general coarse fishing with some specimen fish. Very good tench, rudd, and some fine carp in many stretches of the Canal around the town. Good information on productive swims can be obtained from the tackle shop in the town. Excellent roach and hybrid fishing on the River Inny and Lough Derravarragh where a permit is required and can be purchased online.

Good carp fishing available at Ballinafid Lake and Gaulmoylestown Lake.
