Skipper Billy Byrne has send in a report covering fishing around the Courtown area over the last few weeks. Recent catches on the Courtown boats Brazen Hussey and Puffin have consisted mainly of bullhuss, ray, tope, mackerel, dogfish and smoothhounds but other species have also been recorded.
One recent outing saw over 5 tope boated by 1.30pm and four other fish lost. One tope was hooked when it took a live mackerel being hoisted on a string of feathers. Joe Byrne who was out this morning also had smoothhounds on feathers. Fresh mackerel baits were being targetted for the tope who are actively feeding at the moment. The prospects are good for the coming week end and early next week with good tides running. Tope are being taken on fresh mackerel flappers and are fighting very hard indeed. With light winds and plenty of sunshine its great to be afloat but make sure to use your sunscreen, wear hats and glasses and drink plenty of water.
A number of nice thormback ray have also been taken recently and there is good fishing generally in the area at the moment with some tope also being hooked from the shore.
