The third and final day of the Winter Shore Angling Festival 2016 got under way this morning on the beaches at Ballinesker in Co. Wexford. Brilliant sunshine was again the order of the day but it was cold as temperatures had dropped by 5 degrees or so on yesterday’s values. Temperatures were in and around 5 to 6 degrees and the winds were over the anglers backs which helped matters.
Fishing today on the final day took place from 11am till 4pm and with the changes in placings after yesterdays session a number of teams still in the running for the leaders positions. Todays session started slowly and it was evident that the fishing was going to be tough. A number of trebles in the first few casts produced many undersized fish and anglers fished hard on the ebbing tide for larger fish. Changing tactics brought only occasional larger fish and anglers fishing at distance were met with large rafts of weed which added further to the difficult conditions. Anglers along most of the beach were experiencing the same thing but a few anglers at the end pegs at the northern end of the beach were having some good fishing with one angler recording over twenty fish. Any of the bigger fish observed caught were up to 20+ cm so we will have to see however if any bigger fish were recorded today and how the final placing finish when the results are announce later this evening.
With today’s fishing now finished we will just have to wait and see who is victorious after the numbers are crunched by the organising committee. The final results of the competition will be announced later this evening at the presentations at Sean Ogs in Kilmuckridge and these will be posted as soon as they become available.
