The Dodder Anglers have had a bit of a break since the fishing season closed on the River Dodder at the end of September. But rather than pack the rods away for the year, they paid a visit to the Southern County Fishing Resort over the weekend, where they held their O’Connor Cup competition.

Fishing conditions were ideal when they arrived, and plenty of fish were rising all over the lake. So, 23 anglers headed to the banks with high expectations, and it wasn’t long before fish were being brought to the net. With some anglers trying fly fishing for the first time,  the more experienced anglers were on hand to help out and make sure everyone got a fly on the water, and they even handed out a few killer fly patterns. So it was a relaxed day of fishing, with plenty of banter and laughs. The O’Connor Cup,a junior event, was won by Joe Swaine, while the adult competition was won by Jimmy Kelly.
