Ronan Cusack reports that the heavy rain over the past 7 days has raised water levels on Lough Mask significantly. Any anglers who may not have seen their boat recently may be advised to do so.
As World Cup fever builds, recent reports indicate that angling this week has been mixed, depending on weather conditions. Fly hatches have been good with plenty of sedge and good hatches of late mayfly around the southern end over the weekend.
Andrew Boyd from Galway fished with Stan McCart, Northern Ireland on Sunday and they finished with 2 trout for the day (best fish 1.75lbs). Regular Mask anglers John Brennan and Kieran Newman from Longford fished Mask in torrential rain on Saturday last and they had 3 keepable fish and a few undersize for the day (best fish 1.5lbs, all returned). Brian McInerney and Darin Gardiner from Co. Clare fished out of Dringeen on Sunday and they had 4 fish on a combination of wets and dries (best fish 3lbs). John Burke from Tourmakeady has a group of UK anglers staying with him at the moment and they have an average of 2 trout per day over the past 2 weeks on wet flies.
The outlook for the coming week is for more broken weather, so it looks like an exciting build up to the 2015 World Cup.

Ian Powell of Blackwater Lodge reports anglers on his beats had two very fresh grilse last Thursday. One on fly on the upper river by Maria Fasching from Germany, her First Ever Salmon. Three fish (all on fly on the upper river) were landeded on Friday including a First Ever for Walter Schilling & a First on Fly for Robert Kennedy. There was one fish on fly from the upper river beats on Saturday and one on spinner before the floods came on. After a dirty flood the river began to clear and two very fresh grilse were caught for just 4 rod days on Monday. Ian tells us it should be very good as the latest flood fines off as grilse and some larger double-figure fish running the lower river with a dry week forecast by Met Eireann.
There was some great fishing last week in West Cork reports Eileen Carroll. Following the rain there were good runs of grilse, particularly in Skibereen…
RIVER ILEN

16/07/15 It was a wild Day on Lough Currane today, even though a few boats did venture out but alas drew a blank. Staying on the weather front it has made another good flood. Will give more facts tomorrow, my net is going down, see you as soon as possible.
17/07/15 Again there was a strong wind from the West, even though there were a few boats out manipulating, sadly they failed miserably in their duties to procure a Lough Currane wild Game Fish. On the amount of rainfall there has been a total of 79.6mm so far this month and that includes yesterday where there was 14.7mm. So with any luck once Lough Currane settles down again we should see some good action. Just for the record, I get my rainfall facts from http://www.met.ie/latest/yesterday.asp
18/07/15 We Start with the early shift on Lough Currane, Northern Ireland angler Mr. Andy Wishart and his gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com were in great form early this morning with two fine Grilse caught on the troll, both were in the 7 lbs. class. Now we head downstream to the famous Butler Pool and at www.watervillegolflinks.ie Mr. Roger Simpson, fishing with his gillie Mr. Frank Donnelly of www.lakelandshouse.com caught a fine 6 ½ lbs. Grilse on the fly and they finished their day off on Lough Currane in the Sea Trout fly department with 2 Sea Trout up to 3 lbs. Now we head up to the upper Lakes and Cloonaghlin Mr. Liam Ellis caught and released a fine Trout on the drift.
Mr. Liam Ellis
19/07/15 Lough Currane was on the quiet side in the fly department so we head straight to the trolling department, Mr. Andy Wishart was in good form again, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Dominic McGillicuddy of www.fishingwithdom.com they caught a 5 lbs. Grilse. Staying in the trolling department, their was a touch of enjoyment followed by a touch sadness for Local angler Mr. Gerard Cronin of Waterville as he was trolling around and reminiscing to himself of the great days out on Lough Currane with his good friend and fishing Buddy Tommy O’Sullivan who sadly passed away earlier this year, well Tommy must have been looking down at his good mate Gerard, because it wasn’t long before Gerard caught himself a fine 5 ½ lbs salmon/Grilse, as he netted his fish he looked round as if Tommy was their and Gerard said to himself I dedicate this Salmon in memory of my school and life time good friend Tommy and it is a pity I can’t shake hands with you my great friend. May the sod rest lightly on his Soul.
Andy
Roger and his Family

Mr. Gerard Cronin caught on 19.07.2015Dominic
21/07/15 The Bungalow Takes the headlines, we start in the Sea Trout department and in the Junior Class, Mr. Tony Hall, caught 1 Junior to his fly rod, while fishing with his Gillie Mr. Tom O’Shea of www.flyfishingatloughcurrane.com now to the Italian connection, Mr. Nick Scott from Italy and fishing with his Gillie Mr. Neil O’Shea of www.oshealoughcurrane.com caught a fine 4 lbs. That is your ration from the opening days on Lough Currane, from your Gillie and the Waterville Fishery, no spin no fly’s just facts. Vincent Appleby

Today’s conditions on the Bandon. Water levels for the Bandon can be checked on the Farsom Digital Watercams site.
Eileen Carroll reports that the good fishing of the previous weekend fizzled out very quickly even though water levels and conditions were perfect and there was only about a dozen fish reported for the week.
Jason Nash 5 pounds
As of early this week the Bandon Angling Association tells us that they have the best summer fishing conditions they’ve had in a couple of years. Peter Aspinwall reported great sport on 21 July with a 9lb fish and Jason Nash had a 5 pounder, both as fresh as daisies. Fly fishing is still proving to be the most productive method.
The River Bandon is a most scenic and prolific game fishing river flowing through some of the most picturesque country side in West Cork. It’s source is a few miles north west of Dunmanway from where it flows through that town and and on through the villages of Ballineen, Enniskeane, Kilcoleman, Bandon and Innishannon where it become tidal and widens into an estuary before meeting the sea past Kinsale.

Eileen Carroll in IFI’s Macroom office has the news from the Laune system…
There are no reports of salmon of the Killarney Lakes, Lough Lein, the Killarney Flesk or Beats 1 and 2 on the River Laune.
Billy Downes of the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers’ Associationreports that as of Monday 20th July the water level is at 1.36m at the Laune Bridge or just over 2 feet at Johnston’s. Beautiful water for all methods and will be clearing to even better condition today and for the rest of the week.
Conditions beautiful but despite a good angling effort over the weekend news of fish is extremely scarce once again.
At Johnston’s last evening all I saw landed among six anglers was one small grilse which had been through the wars in the estuary and was marked on both flanks.
Beat 3: The Beat 3 water level is lovely just now.
Permits for Laune Anglers waters from now to the end of July only €25 per day.
