The 2016 European Federation of Sea Anglers (EFSA) European Shore Angling Championships gets under way today 12th May in Wexford, with this year’s event being hosted by EFSA Ireland. The opening ceremony and zone draw took place at Upton Court Hotel in Kilmuckridge yesterday evening of the 11th of May.

This year’s event sees 70 anglers from eight nations competing to win this prestigious title. Countries competing in this year’s event are England, Wales, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Iceland and of course the host nation Ireland. Fishing will be taking place over the next three days from the 12th to 14th May on the beaches of Wexford at Clones, Ballinoulart and Ballinesker.

In addition to their fishing skills anglers are going to have to display great bait management skills as the bait supply is strictly limited. For example the Day 1 allocation of baits consists of 3 crab, 20 king rag, 1 pack of mackerel and 1 pack of sand-eel and no bait can be carried over to the following day.

Fishing on Day 1 be taking place over a five hour session between 16.00 and 21.00 or 17.00 to 22.00 depending on light conditions. With the weather forecast giving bright conditions accompanied by light to moderate breezes and temperatures in the teens, the scheduled evening session is bound to bring some nice fishing.
